(MENAFN – The Peninsula) Doha: The Koranic Botanical Garden (QBG), the first garden in the world to exhibit all the plant species mentioned in the Holy Quran, Hadiths and Sunnah, received a special visit from HE Foday Malang, Ambassador from the Republic of Ghana to Qatar, recently.
Ambassador Foday Malang personally delivered 10 seedlings of his country’s national tree, gmelina arborea, exclusively imported from the Republic of The Gambia to be planted at QBG at an upcoming event that is part of QBG’s Ghars campaign .
The seedlings are currently in storage at the QBG Conservation Center for the ceremony, and will be planted by his wife, Ambassador SW Ndow, at QBG’s African Women’s Diplomatic Garden. Currently, the garden includes a variety of trees from 10 African countries.
Ambassador Malang visited QBG’s facilities including the seed bank, herbarium, botanical museum collection, germination labs and nurseries.
The Gambian Embassy in Qatar said the Ambassador himself was trained and worked in the field of plant science and left the facility in awe of the setup, processes and motivation of the QBG team, expressing his appreciation for QBG’s efforts in preserving the environment and conserving Arab and Islamic Heritage.
A number of embassies across the country have also recognized the important role that QBG plays in environmental conservation and restoration, taking an active part in QBG’s tree planting campaign in Ghars and d ‘other activites.
These include the embassies of the United Kingdom, Russia, Turkey and India. In addition, Mali, Djibouti, South Africa and Senegal are among the countries that, early last year, helped launch the QBG African Women’s Diplomatic Garden – a first in the country, to the occasion of Environment Day in Qatar.
