As part of the iconic week-long festival, the Ministry of Tourism hosted a Sufi musical evening last night with nationally and internationally renowned artists captivating audiences with Sufi music in the lawns of the beautiful Botanical Garden.
The festival was held to commemorate the 75th Independence Day celebrated as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav across the country.
Famous artists from Kashmir like Abdul Rashid Hafiz; Gulzar Ganai and others captivated audiences with famous traditional Chakkri songs by Sufi poets like Wahab Khaar and others.
The musical evening also brought together other artists of national eminence in the Sufi tradition from across the country such as Vidha Lal, a famous Kathak exponent and Vusat Iqbal Khan, a Dastango from Delhi Garana, telling tales of mystics and literary legends. through their haunting performances. In addition, the Nizami brothers kept the audience spellbound with their famous and acclaimed qawwali acts.
The festival also saw exciting performances by local Kashmiri artists who mesmerized audiences with Lal Ded vaakhs.
Representatives of the public, people from all walks of life, tourists also witnessed the musical extravagance.
A special feature of the event was the participation of a large number of tourists, currently in the Valley, who stuck to the performances despite the cold autumn.
The musical evening was organized with the aim of promoting the iconic role of Rishi and the Sufi Saints in spreading the peaceful and syncretic traditions for which Jammu and Kashmir is known throughout the world.
