Leicestershire garden centers are launching free gardening workshops for children

Two garden centers in Leicestershire offer children the opportunity to take part in free gardening workshops.

Dobbies Garden Centers in Rothley near Loughborough and Stapleton near Hinckley are due to hold their first-ever Little Seedling Club workshops next month – when children can learn about the much-loved strawberry.

The Dobbies Little Seedlings Club is designed for children aged 4 to 10 and, according to the company, is a great way to get them gardening.

During these new free monthly workshops, children will discover different plants, fauna and the environment, through playful activities.

The first workshops will take place on Sunday March 6, allowing children to get closer to one of the most popular fruits in the world, the strawberry, and to discover the history surrounding this fruit and its importance for our eco- system.

Children will learn how to grow fruit, how to nurture and care for their plants, and get top tips for selecting the best crop. Dobbies will also introduce children to the different ways to use their delicious local produce in the foods and drinks they enjoy at home.

This workshop is focused on sustainability and will highlight the key benefits of using peat-free compost and safer pest control products.

Sarah Murray, Head of Partnerships and Events at Dobbies, said: “We are looking forward to launching the Little Seedlings Club in March. Our horticultural team is looking forward to meeting these passionate young gardeners, while introducing them to different ways to help protect our planet. The fun and interactive format of our Little Seedlings Club inspires children from all walks of life to learn while discovering their passion for gardening.”
