CAMP HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea – Twenty-eight soldiers from the United States Army Humphreys Garrison and their families visited the town of Asan on December 4 and 5.

The event aimed to foster ready and resilient teams and strengthen the ROK-US alliance through a friendship opportunity with Asan’s Good Neighbor Program.

“This two-day city tour will be a great memory for my family. This trip provided an opportunity to explore nearby destinations that might otherwise be overlooked by foreigners,” said Staff Sgt Lorenzo Gutierrez, an air traffic control equipment repairer who was stationed in South Korea for a month. “It also provided a balanced dive into Korean culture by covering history, art, food, outdoor activities and shopping. We are very grateful for the opportunity to make meaningful memories and connections. . ”

Asan Town Hall sponsored the tour and coordinated with the Garrison Chaplain’s Office to make the event accessible to Humphreys service members and families.

The group visited Asan Oeam-Ri Folk Village, Maengssi Haengdan, and made clay plates in the pottery showroom. Participants enjoyed the Dogo World Botanical Garden and the vélorail ride along the scenic rails south of Lake Sinjungho Park.

Participants also experienced a 150-meter tour of Asan Ecological Environment Insect Park, a traditional market, Onyang Folk Village, and a meal at a Korean restaurant. bulgogi.

The city tour was an opportunity for Army soldiers and families to share quality time together over the weekend. In addition, the event provided soldiers and their families the opportunity to learn about Korean culture and history and gave the local Korean community time to get to know the American soldiers and their families stationed on the peninsula.
