MUNISING, MI – Anita Del (Duncan) Hulse, 82, of Munising, died Sunday afternoon September 5, 2021 at Medilodge in Munising. She was born May 29, 1939 in Toledo, Ohio, to Elwood and Glenys (Tiepel) Duncan, and raised by her grandparents; Richard and Gladys Arno. Anita graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1957 and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Toledo School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio in 1961. While working at the Toledo Hospital, she met Robert Clark Hulse, MD and they got married. on October 24, 1964. In 1965, the couple moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where they lived until 1986. In Las Vegas, Anita honed her nursing skills at Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital as a working charge nurse. in the Obstetrics and Emergency Departments, to name a few. Anita continued her love of learning by attending the University of Las Vegas and obtaining her Master of Arts (MBA) in Chinese History in 1986. Anita was a woman admired, as she was by so many people. She was incredibly spiritual, very intelligent, and left a lasting impression on everyone she came in contact with. Although they live in Las Vegas, Anita and Bob never lost their love for the Midwest, which was evident in their lush, deserted backyard. From fruit trees to the wide variety of flowers and plants to Koi Pond, their backyards were always green and Anita’s love for gardening was ever present; Anita particularly liked her rose garden. Anita definitely had a green thumb, and no matter where she lived, her house was always full of plants. While in Las Vegas, Anita and Robert also bred and exhibited English Sheepdogs and Welsh Corgis cardigans, many of which achieved Grand Champion status. Anita loved ceramics and pottery, and even created her own pottery on her pottery wheel; she was a karate yellow belt and was an expert shooter. Anita and Bob had many friends, joined weekly bowling leagues, and it was not uncommon for the Hulse to throw a card game on Saturday nights. After Bob retired in 1986, the Hulse family moved to Munising, building their dream home on Lake Superior in AuTrain, Michigan. This beautiful home was home to many vacations, family occasions and wonderful memories. Bob and Anita bought the Iverson Snowshoe Company, where after Bob’s death on April 16, 1989, Anita continued to own and operate until 2007. During Anita’s tenure, she was able to gain the interest of LL Bean , in which wood snowshoes, Iverson furniture, and fishing nets were sold in their international catalog. Anita was a very accomplished woman, and one of her many honors was being placed on the Algiers County Women’s Honor Roll. She has been recognized as a woman who has led enriched lives through work, hobbies, volunteering and everyday living. Anita had many hobbies, from crafts and painting with her daughter’s Heidi and Jamie, to reading historical novels, to gardening. Anita had a huge heart and a tendency to save any cat who decided her home was where they wanted to be. She had a plethora of bird feeders, and when they weren’t plundered by the local raccoons and squirrels, she enjoyed watching the birds while sitting in her recliner. Anita loved watching cooking shows, Bible history, old John Wayne movies and especially loved the Lord of the Rings trilogy; Anita had multiple layers. Anita loved her family and was always there to get them back or to be the greatest cheerleader in the world. Anita has never missed an event her children attended and has always been the loudest voice in the stands. Anita was a sounding board and a shoulder to cry on; Anita has always given the best advice. Anita will be remembered by her family as the most loving, intelligent, spiritual and amazing woman; We will miss Anita very much. Anita is survived by her children; Clark “Male” (Donna) Hulse of Munising, Heidi Hulse of Edwardsburg, Michigan, Jamie (Rick) Nebel of Munising, and her stepson Casey (Darla) Hulse of Vicksburg, Michigan, her grandchildren; Emily (Andrew) Hulse of Brownsburg, Indiana, Isabelle Nebel, Zoey Hulse, Larson Nebel, Ryan Mote and Savanna Mote of Las Vegas Nevada, her siblings; Paul (Rhonda) Tiepel from Houghton Lake, Michigan, Glenny Tiepel from Roscommon, Michigan, Anita’s “favorite cousin”; Judy (John) Crosser of Port Clinton, Ohio, and many cousins. Anita was predeceased by her husband; Robert C. Hulse, MD, his parents, grandparents and stepson; Robert M. Hulse, MD A private ceremony to honor Anita’s life well lived will be held.
