A family waited 50 hours for their flight to Turkey – and have their fingers crossed that they can make it to a wedding in time. Kirsty and Rob Gore and their three children were due to leave early Friday morning but have yet to fly from Manchester Airport.

After a series of delays that saw Kirsty and Rob Gore and their three children stranded at the airport for 15 hours, including sitting on a grounded plane on the runway for two and a half hours, the family was finally told the flight had been cancelled. with the next available flight not before Sunday morning, reports MEN.

The family, from Runcorn, spent £6,500 on an eight-night all-inclusive Tui holiday package to Fethiye for Kirsty’s sister’s wedding. Now they have been put up in a downtown hotel and are anxiously awaiting to see if they will make it to the ceremony on Monday afternoon. Tui apologized for the cancellation and said it had offered a full refund to all affected passengers

Kirsty, 35, said: “It was awful. We arrived at the airport at 3am on Friday morning and spent over 12 hours sitting there and two and a half hours sitting on the plane. My whole family am in Turkey for my sisters wedding and we just hope we get there in time. My husband has cancer and this is the first family vacation we have had since he was diagnosed. It has been an emotional rollercoaster.

“We were treated like cattle. The only people who told us the truth were the pilot and the plane staff. There was no one from Tui at the airport to explain what was happening. We didn’t speak to anyone about Tui until 3 pm We took time off, the kids had the day off and the whole thing was absolutely shocking.

A Tui spokesperson said: “We would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers on flight TOM822 from Manchester to Dalaman on Friday May 27, who were affected by a flight delay due to various operational challenges. .

“We contacted customers as soon as we were informed of the change and were offered overnight accommodation, meals and refreshments while we worked on a new flight plan. Customers have now received a new hour of flight departure and have the option to change or cancel their holiday and receive a full refund within 14 days.

“We always do our best to limit flight delays, which can occur from time to time for various operational reasons. In the rare event that flight delays do occur, we will do everything possible to support our customers. thank you for their patience and understanding at this time.”
